Hursley Park Cricket Club - Roarke's Report

Hursley Park Cricket Club - Tuesday 17th June
The Yr 5/6 boys played a tournament at Hursley Park Cricket Club. When we arrived there were lots of schools competing for the tournament.

Our first match was against Bishop Waltham the score was, 251-238 to South Wonston. Will Rhodes started off bowling for the team. Despite a few no balls and some wides (throughout the whole team) South Wonston put in some excellent fielding which set us up well to bat. A great start to the competition when Will Rhodes went on to scored a double 6, the team went truly wild with excitement!

Next up was South Wonston versus Weeke School, so pride was on the line. We fielded first, which we think works in our favour and went on to bat with Jacob Lee scoring another great 6 with Patrick, Roarke and James Winson came on and batted well, closely followed by Will Rhodes and Oliver Thornton and our final pair James Baker and Will Clements with a final score of 246-235 to South Wonston.

Our final match before lunch was with Wellstead School from Hedge End. Despite a brave performance from Wellstead they were no match for South Wonston and we won 239-226. There were many 6s from the whole team, some excellent 4s and some great runs which contributed to the team’s scores.

Lunch at last, a beautiful day with lots of sunshine; everyone was offered sun cream. A certain person was particularly keen to ‘top up’ his tan lines, he knows who he is!

Despite qualifying in the top 4 of the competition we struggled with our next 3 matches and although we scored some further great 6’s from the team and fielded bravely, we were out batted by our competitors whom were Bishops Waltham, Sparsholt and St Peters. Everyone walked away with pride that we took our chances to do the best in every single game, but these last 3 games weren’t games that we were ready/skilled up for – lots more cricket practice required please Mrs Doyle.

A wonderful day had by all!
