As Tuesday 17th June dawned and turned into what would be a blistering hot day, eight boys, a parent and I set off for the rescheduled kwik cricket tournament at Hursley Park.
In the morning, the eight school teams were split into two groups and played each other making three games for each school. South Wonston won all of their games, putting them in the top two of their group, despite never having played kwik cricket outside of PE lessons. The boys played well together, gaining experience as the day progressed.
After a short lunch break, the two top teams from the morning session groups played each other and the two bottom teams from each group also played each other. Unfortunately we were not so lucky this time and lost our first two matches with the scores being extremely close. Although disheartened, the boys continued knowing that if they lost the last match they would probably come last in the afternoon session. Alas they did lose the match with the scores being so close that we were unable to predict who was winning.
South Wonston may have come last in the afternoon session but overall they came fourth out of eight teams.
A good day was enjoyed by all and the boys and the school should be proud of their achievement.
