South Wonston Primary School Together, we will nurture, inspire, challenge and achieve

16th April 2018

Welcome back Kestrels! We hope you had an extremely relaxing half term and enjoyed the two weeks off from school.

This week, we have been continuing our work on decimals. Year 4 have been concentrating on tenths and hundredths, whilst Year 5 have also been using thousandths. We have all focused on dividing numbers by 10 and 100 whilst thinking about how many times smaller the number is getting! Further to this, we looked at what decimal numbers we can add to make a whole and completed calculations that involved as adding within a whole.

As a class, we were introduced to our new topic of the Mayans. In English, we sampled Mayan hot chocolate which was made of normal hot chocolate with chilli and cinnamon added to it! We then wrote descriptive pieces using all of our senses! We also looked at Mayan masks and spent time designing our own celebration mask and battle or death masks. We will start to make these in the coming weeks using a mosaic technique.
