The children have settled back well into the school routines after half term. This week we have been writing Firework poems in English and solving mathematical problems using our number bond knowledge. In Year One we have started our topic of materials and we have been thinking carefully about what various items are made from and the properties of these. The Year R children have enjoyed outdoor Poddley fun and painting their favourite toys in our creative area. Indoor PE was also a real highlight and the children showed that they can move around the hall space carefully and in different ways. Well done Squirrels!

Over the last few weeks we have continued exploring traditional fairytales and this week our focus has been on the tale of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. We had to put our investigating hats on as we discovered someone had been in our community room! By looking carefully at the clues we came to the conclusion that it must have been Goldilocks! We have written sorry letters from Goldilocks and made porridge in preparation for creating a set of instructions, so that baby bear can make that ‘just right’ porridge that he lost!
In maths the Year 1 children have been comparing sets of numbers using the language of greater than and less than as well as exploring ordinal number. Our Year R children have been finding different ways of representing numbers 1-10 using various mathematical equipment.

Welcome to Squirrels Class Blog!
We have had a great start to the new term in Squirrel class and all of the children are settling well into the class routines. We have been so impressed how the children have adapted so quickly already; in particular our new Year R children. They have loved exploring all parts of our unit and the mud kitchen has shown itself to be a firm favourite during discovery time along with our South Wonston airport role play area.
We have also been reading traditional fairy tales and have focused on Jack and the Beanstalk and the Gingerbread Man. The Year 1 children have made wanted posters for a missing Gingerbread Man and have enjoyed role playing and sequencing important parts from the story. In Maths we have been practising our counting and grouping skills along with counting forwards and backwards from different starting points. Well done to all our Squirrels on a great start to the new school year!
