Administrative Assistant

Location: South Wonston Primary School
Hours: 5 mornings per week (8.30am - 12.00pm, term time only – 39 weeks)
Start Date: 1st September 2026
Salary: £10,032 per annum

We are looking to appoint a friendly, organised and enthusiastic Administrative Assistant to join our busy school office team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in providing excellent service to pupils, parents, staff and visitors.

As the first point of contact for visitors to the school, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the school office while helping to create a welcoming and professional environment.

About the Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Act as the first point of contact for general parent/pupil/visitor enquiries.
  • Assist with pupil attendance records and monitor daily attendance.
  • Administer school meal bookings and records.
  • Coordinate and administer school trips, including permissions, payments and communications.
  • Provide general administrative support to school staff and parents.
  • Support the smooth operation of the school reception and front-of-house service.
  • Order and maintain stocks of school supplies.
  • Producing routine correspondence, letters and reports.
  • Maintain pupil records and school databases.
  • Support wider school events and activities.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is confident using Google Workspace applications, including Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets and Gmail, and is willing to learn or has experience of school management systems
  • Can manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
  • Has a professional, friendly and approachable manner
  • Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail
  • Enjoys working as part of a team and building positive relationships with children, families and colleagues
  • Has GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) / HLTA Apprentice Opportunity (Based in Year 3/4)

We are seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), or an experienced teaching assistant ready to develop into the role through apprenticeship training, to join our team from September 2026 (however we may be able to offer an earlier start for the right candidate).

This role has a strong classroom base within our mixed Year 3/4 class, alongside opportunities to deliver planned lessons across the primary phase from Reception to Year 6 as part of our collaborative teaching support team.

About the role

The successful candidate will:

  • work closely with the Year 3/4 class teacher to support teaching and learning
  • deliver whole-class lessons using prepared planning
  • provide high-quality planned teaching cover across the school
  • support pupils’ independence and engagement in learning
  • work with individuals and small groups to support progress
  • contribute positively to the wider life of the school

This is a varied and rewarding role suited to someone confident working with children across the primary age range who enjoys being part of a supportive staff team.

Development opportunities

We welcome applications from candidates who already hold HLTA status, as well as experienced teaching assistants who would like to work towards HLTA status through apprenticeship training while working in the role.

This role may also be particularly suitable for someone considering a future career in teaching. Previous members of staff at South Wonston Primary School have successfully been supported to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while working within our team.

Extended / Out of School Assistant 

Job Description

Start date: September 2026
Salary: £12.85 p/h

We are looking for a proactive, caring and organised individual to assist the line manager with the day to day operation of our Acorns Wraparound Care provision, 

As an Out of School Assistant, you will be responsible for children aged 4 to 11, helping them to develop personally, socially and educationally in a safe, caring and engaging environment. 

Acorns operate during the morning from 7.45am-8.30am and in the afternoon from 3.00pm - 6.00pm. We have various shifts available, both in the morning and afternoon. Please detail your availability on your application form.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Assist the line manager with the day to day running of the provision ensuring that the service meets the care, play and educational needs of the children.

  • To support and assist in delivering a safe, secure and stimulating environment for children in wraparound care, including ensuring Early Years and Ofsted ratios/standards are maintained.

  • Help children with independent play and manage social relationships, in conjunction with the team.

  • Prepare rooms and resources in advance and ensure that play equipment, materials and refreshments are set up at the beginning of the session and cleared away and safely stored at the end of the session.

  • Ensure that the children use the play equipment correctly.

  • Ensure all safeguarding and health & safety procedures are followed at all times

  • Prepare and serve snacks as needed, ensuring good hygiene and allergy awareness

We are looking for someone who:
  • Has a caring, patient approach towards children and enjoys seeing them have fun
     
  • Can be creative and plan activities for the children to engage in
     
  • Demonstrates excellent safeguarding knowledge and a commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing
     
  • Has a positive approach that supports the schools’ visions and values
     
  • Have strong interpersonal skills with children and adults
     
  • Be a team player with a professional attitude
     
  • Is able to use their own initiative
     
  • Is paediatric first aid trained (or willing to complete training)
     
  • Is Level 2 Food Hygiene trained (or willing to complete training)
