South Wonston Primary School Together, we will nurture, inspire, challenge and achieve

What do Governors do?

Governors do not get involved in the day to day running of the school, as that is the responsibility of the Headteacher and her school management team. However, Governors do have a vital role in helping to guide the overall strategic direction of the school. Governors meet all together twice per term at a Full Governing Body meeting. There are various sub-committees and working parties that Governors are also involved in and these meet regularly throughout the year. Governor duties include helping to set the strategy, policies and objectives for the school. They challenge and support decisions made by the school management team. Governors approve the school budget and review progress against it throughout the year. They are also directly involved in the appointment of staff.
