We offer a variety of music tuition options at South Wonston School with various concerts and performances taking place throughout the academic year.
Lessons are taught during the school day as a small group or, if requested and accommodated, can be taught on a 1:1 basis.
Lessons are either taught in the Church area of the school or in the Shared Social Room (SSA - opposite the school office).
Learning to play an instrument or to sing is a hugely rewarding thing to do and can give years of enjoyment. It is vital that regular daily practice is done to fully appreciate the benefits. We recommend a ‘little and often’ approach. As a young person progresses and becomes a more accomplished musician, practice time needs to increase accordingly.

Instruments can either be purchased outright (once size has been determined) or can be loaned from Hampshire Music Service (see overleaf). Instruments must be brought into school each week as cannot be left at school.

Payment for Violin, Woodwind and Brass are made directly to the school (as the school is charged (annually) centrally by Hampshire Music Service). Payment must be made annually in advance or pro rata upon starting. Invoices are sent out to parents at the beginning of each academic year. Payments must be made online via scopay. The charge for tuition is dependent on how many students are participating that year but will provide at least 10 sessions per term (children usually receive more than 10 in a term).
Owing to the contractual obligations with Hampshire Music Service, the notice period (if a child wishes to stop tuition) is one term in advance. The payment for the remainder of the academic year must still be paid for unless another child can take their place.
Payment must still be made for missed lessons. If the Teacher is absent, lessons will try to be made up as and when possible.
